Project Based Apps

Examples – Trello, Asana, Producteev, Slack (maybe), Basecamp

Who is it for – If you are a part of team that is working on a project, you could be a team member, team leader and can be working on several or one project at a time in different capacities.

Methodology – the aim here is to bring everybody onto one common platform, break the project down into sequential steps, assign responsibilities, track progress and keep all relevant communication, attachments, reference materials etc. in one place i.e. that particular platform so that you don’t have to search your laptop for file X, search your email for that discussion thread etc.

Since these tools are based on a larger picture where the main goal is to bring many people together, they do not offer much in personal task management. Although they do offer some solutions and most of these platforms are initially free to start with but you pay for additional members or functionality. Hence, it is but obvious that is where the innovation or concentration to improve will be.

Pros – great for team projects.

Cons – you will probably need another app / tool to manage & plan your personal productivity

Side Note – I like using Trello – I am not using it for team projects etc – but I like the Kanban style and use it for a visualizing the stuff I am working on and where do they fit into the bigger picture.
